The choice to change Thanos reason for the stones was a great idea. The comic book Stan Lee original lame story line to impress a chic was just that LAME. But I fear the Marvel story lines for the movies will get poorer and it will be seen in the box office returns. The series have made these actors very very rich. So they can go and do their art house pictures, stage plays, Shakespeare or independent movies. This will make them feel good for awhile but in the end you go home with the one that brought you to the dance. With Cap and Tony gone things will change. My only hope is they did leave a door open for Cap to return. By traveling into the past and staying he can do team ups with the original Nick Fury and the Howling Mad Commandos. They have left a 50 year time line open for him to keep working with SHIELD and his old lady. This has great potential for older team up story lines. The time travel here is specifically described such that changing the past doesn't change the present or the future; it just creates another timeline. This is as logical a view of time as I have ever seen, avoiding the paradox that comes from a Back to the Future type time travel explanation (you went back and changed something, but now you don't exist in the same way as you did before, so the version of you that made the change never comes to exist. Side note: by no means a criticism of BttF - I love that too. People who point out Loki's disappearance and how they "ignore" its effects don't seem to fully understand this. There is another timeline feeling the effects of Loki's escape, but it has no impact on the timelines we see from that point onward.
Overall, a stunning culmination of over a decade of MCU films with brilliant references galore and an incredibly beautiful final scene for those who have been a part of this magnificent ride for so long.
